Sports : Putnam County Softball Loses Slugfest To Clark County, 11-6

In the season opening softball game for the Putnam County Lady Midgets, the Unionville team scored well, but had trouble keeping visiting Clark County off the scoreboard, in an 11-6 Lady Indian victory.

For the host Lady Midgets, Sara Webb and Jade Varner each had three hits, with Haley Bradshaw going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI's. Putnam County had come off of a tough jamboree at Trenton on Monday, August 18th, falling to Brookfield 6-0 and Trenton 2-0 in four inning affairs. PC will continue its 2014 season on Wednesday, hosting the LaPlata Lady Bulldogs.

The Chillicothe Lady Hornet tennis team swept Savannah in an MEC duel, 9-0, with LeBlond downing nearby rival Lafayette 7-2. The Maysville Lady Wolverines won the season-opening Plattsburg Best Ball Golf Tournament, shooting a team score of 299, five strokes better than runner-up Odessa. Excelsior Springs and Lawson tied for third with 314. Cameron was sixth at 335, and Plattsburg seventh at 338. There were nine teams in the field.
