Wet weather dominated Friday night's jamboree from C.F. Russell Stadium in Trenton, with the host Trenton Bulldogs, the South Harrison Bulldogs, and the Maysville Wolverines battling bad snaps and a slippery ball, while dealing with each other, in a tune up for the 2014 high school football season.

Things started in poor fashion for Trenton, as South Harrison's J.D. Johnson took the opening play of the scrimmage 60 yards for a touchdown. The visiting Bulldogs added a second score against Trenton in the alloted 18 plays, with Wyatt Thomas connecting with Corby Clark on a 17 yard touchdown pass. Trenton's deepest drive against South Harrison ended on a fumble inside the 20 yard line.

In the middle session, South Harrison and Maysville each scored one touchdown against one another, with Stanton Blake scoring on a run for the Bulldogs, and Maysville's Matt White hitting paydirt on an eight yard run.

In the Maysville-Trenton scrimmage, the Bulldogs had a potential touchdown run by Bailey Owen called back on a holding penalty, but Trenton did score its only points of the night on its 33rd play overall, with Logan Shuler going in from 10 yards. Maysville struck for a 35 yard scoring pass from White to Josh Stooksbury.

Trenton coach Brandon Boswell says there is room for improvement for the Bulldogs, heading into next week's season opener at Carrollton:

Many consider the teams visiting Trenton last night, South Harrison and Maysville, to be the top programs in the Grand River Conference this fall:

Especially early in the night, against South Harrison, Trenton went with Travis Leeper instead of Colton Neff with the majority of the running plays. Boswell said that was NOT a result of Neff's offseason injury struggles.

With South Harrison and Maysville being comparable programs, Trenton did show some improvement in their second scrimmage of the night.

Trenton opens the season at Carrollton, with South Harrison at Hamilton, and Maysville hosting East Buchanan, next Friday night, August 22nd.
