The Kansas City Chiefs, looking to add veteran depth to its defensive secondary, have signed Jonathan Amaya. Amaya takes the roster spot of Steve Gregory, who retired from the NFL over the weekend.

The 25-year old Amaya played in 38 NFL games from 2010 to 2012, picking up 37 tackles and a forced fumble during time with the New Orleans Saints and Miami Dolphins. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in the spring of 2013, but was cut during training camp and did not play last season.

With the Chiefs, Amaya will be added to a group that includes Pro Bowler Eric Berry, Husain Abdullah, Daniel Sorenson, Jerron McMillian, and Malcolm Bronson. The group generally played poorly last week in a 41-39 pre-season win against the Cincinnati Bengals, burned a handful of times by the Bengals potent down-field passing attack.

Kansas City's second preseason game will be Sunday night, when the Chiefs travel to Charlotte to take on Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers in a FOX nationally televised game.
