Grundy County's next circuit clerk and ex-officio recorder will be Becky Stanturf who won a race in yesterday's primary election, defeating Tammy Hanes.

Ms. Stanturf is the deputy clerk and will be replacing her boss, Charlene Arnold, who did not seek re-election. There's no opponent in the November election for this office.

Ms. Stanturf led all evening ending up with 59 percent of the vote (1,184) to Tammy Hanes 41 percent. (816). Mrs. Hanes won in the Edinburg precinct while Becky Stanturf captured the other eight precincts and absentees. There will be one race to decide in November as Cristine Stallings and Carrie Lamm Clark were nominated by the Democratic and Republican parties to run for prosecuting attorney.

Voters of Grundy county soundly defeated the local use tax proposal as the issue receive only 40 percent support. (841 yes and 1,240 no) Grundy County approved by large margins, amendments 1, 5, and 9; and by a narrow three vote margin, amendments seven (state sales tax) and eight (veterans lottery ticket). It was 36 percent voter turnout.

Incumbents Mike Lair of Chillicothe and Nate Walker of Kirksville survive Republican primary challenges to retain their house of representative positions.

Lair wins the 7th house seat with nearly 52 percent of the vote. Dennis McDonald of Galt
collected 48 percent. McDonald won Grundy county (1219-792) and Linn County (611 to 571) Lair, however, took Livingston county by a bigger margin (1461- 812).

Collectively, from the three counties, Lair had 28 hundred 24 votes. McDonald had 26 hundred 42 votes ( difference of just 182 votes out of more than 54 hundred votes. )

In the 3rd house district of Mercer, Sullivan, Putnam, and part of Adair County, Nate Walker of Kirksville rolled to victory with 59 percent of the vote; defeating Doctor John Bailey. (The count was Walker 32-hundred 56 to Bailey 22-hundred 90). Walker carried Mercer, Sullivan, and Adair while Bailey carried Putnam County.

Winning races for Republican nominations in Mercer County were Joe Berger, over two others for presiding commissioner; (Berger 319; Stan Johnson 285; Donna Herdrich 282) and Tammy Crouse for circuit clerk and ex officio recorder. (Crouse 634 and Shelley Willis 311.)



Berger will have two opponents in the general election as two persons have filed as independents for presiding commissioner in Mercer County: Robert Gibson Junior and Jim Mason. Another race in Novembers' election involves Democrat Brad Funk and Republican Matt Krohn for associate circuit judge.

Winning the Republican nod as Livingston County Presiding Commissioner was Ed Douglas. He'll take on two opponents in November: Democrat Billy Peniston and Libertarian Jeffrey Foli. Two others races this fall involve Democrat Sherry Parks and
Republican Jennifer Leach for county clerk as well as Democrat Kelly Christopher and
Republican Dowell Kincaid for recorder of deeds.

The only primary race in Daviess County was won by Jane McKinsey for recorder of deeds (672 to Kathy Kyser 184).

Voters at Gilman City approve a revenue bond issue 79 to 29 for water and sewer system improvements.

Republican races in Harrison County were easily won by Tom Alley for associate circuit court judge; Sherece Eivins for circuit clerk and ex officio recorder; and Rick Turner as prosecuting attorney.

Winning nomination among three Republicans for Caldwell County presiding commissioner was C-R Bud Motsinger. Voters in Caldwell County, by a narrow margin defeat a five cent levy to fund services for senior citizens. (Yes 942 No 982) 49% - 51%

Following the nomination process yesterday, Linn County will have two races in the November election. Democrat Don Fuhrhop and Republican Dick King meet for presiding commissioner. Democrat Anna Barker and Republican Suzan Stephenson compete for county clerk.

In Putnam County, Republican Primary, Chrystal Perkins won the race for county clerk. Her opponent in Novembers' election will be Democrat Rebecca Rollins.
