GREENVILLE, PA (WKBN/CNN) - A seven-year-old boy is in protective custody after he was found bruised and nearly starved to death.

Police say the child only weighed 25 pounds and looked like a skeleton when he was taken from his home last month.

The boy was apparently being homeschooled and was only allowed outside on the back porch, where he sometimes fed on bugs.

One doctor described the boy as the worst case of medical neglect she'd ever seen.

The boy's mother and grandparents are now charged with several crimes. Three other children living in the house have also been removed.

Doctors say the boy is on the mend, having gained 20 pounds since June 6.
