ST. LOUIS (AP) - A man sleeping inside a large trash container near the St. Louis Art Museum got a rude awakening early Wednesday morning when a truck picked up the container and dumped the contents – including the man – into the bed of the truck.

Luckily, the driver of the truck spotted the man, helped him get out, and called authorities, said St. Louis Fire Department Captain Garon Mosby. The man was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The incident happened shortly after 6:30 a.m.

Mosby said it is unusual for someone to get dumped into a truck. Sometimes in the colder months, he said, the department gets calls from people who spot people sleeping inside trash containers. Callers are alarmed because they're not sure if the person is sick or hurt or dead. But by the time authorities get there, the person inside has woken up and has left, he said. β€œThey're just using it as a place to stay warm,” he said.
