A hearing officer for the Missouri State Tax Commission has ruled in favor of Wright Memorial Hospital in its 2012 tax assessment dispute with Grundy County.

A news release on the tax commissions' web site reports it will “set aside” the Grundy
County's Board of Equalization assessment.

The state tax commission noted the hospital, on behalf of its physicians clinic, presented what it described as substantial and persuasive evidence to rebut the
county's higher assessment figures.

The tax commission set the market value of the clinic for tax year 2012 at over one million dollars. ($1,160,000) The former county assessor had determined the true
value of the property to be over three million dollars. ($3,011,290 including assessed commercial value $963,610).

That's three times greater than what the tax commission has now established.

The ruling likely means taxing entities will get “only” one-third of the tax money.

The hospitals' tax payment has been held in escrow by the collector-treasurer.

The hospital had appealed to the state tax commission on the grounds of overvaluation and exemption, the decision made by the Grundy County Board
of Equalization, which had sustained the 2012 Assessor’s valuation of the physicians'
office property. The doctor's office is now part of the new hospital building at Trenton.

The Grundy county collector-treasurer is to continue holding the disputed taxes pending the possible filing within 30 days an application to further review the case.

The hospital also appealed the 2013 assessment based on similar tax numbers
as in 2012. The hospital also is requesting a tax exemption for the doctors' clinic for
future years.
