(joplinglobe.com) - The Vernon County sheriff has released the names of a mother and two sons whose bodies were discovered Friday inside a home near Nevada following what investigators determined was a double murder-suicide.
The bodies were identified as those of Fay F. Besaw, 77, and her sons Charles K. Besaw, 52, and Harold Besaw, 54.
Sheriff Jason Mosher said all three were shot to death with a semiautomatic handgun recovered at the house on a cul-de-sac off Quail Road about three miles south of Nevada. He said Charles Besaw, who lived at the address with his mother, is believed to have killed her and his brother, who was visiting from California, before turning the gun on himself.
"We believe the shootings took place Thursday, sometime between 3 and 7 p.m.," the sheriff said.
A family member discovered the bodies and called 911 at 2:49 p.m. Friday.
The sheriff said Charles Besaw left no note explaining his actions.
"In our investigation, we did find what we believe was the motive," Mosher said. "But the family has asked us not to release that and we're going to respect the family's wishes."
