(koamtv.com) - The Vernon County Sheriff's Office has confirmed a murder-suicide after three people, all family members, were found dead inside their home Friday night in rural Nevada, MO.
Neighbors confirmed the home near the 1600 block of Quail Road.
The Vernon County Sheriff's Office says all three died of gun shot wounds.
They say two of the bodies found were of people between the ages of 40 and 50, and the third person was older.
Nearby residents are shaken by the incident.
"I was brush hogging the field out there, next thing I know, I looked up and there was an ambulance in the driveway and all kinds of law enforcement, yellow tape going up around everything," said Bruce Hensley, neighbor. "Law enforcement came over and asked us if we had seen any suspicious vehicles, anybody in the area or anything missing. We didn't know the people who lived there. It's a very quiet neighborhood."
Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher says the Southwest Missouri Major Case Squad played a part in determining the murder- suicide.
"In the first ten hours, they covered more ground than a single agency could cover in a week," Mosher said.
The Vernon County Sheriff's Office is continuing the investigation and communicating with family members.
A press conference will be held today to provide further details.
