An eastbound car was driven onto the shoulder of highway 6, then stopped in an attempt to avoid an oncoming tractor trailer unit, when a westbound truck crossed the centerline and hit the car head-on.
The accident, west of Trenton, resulted in what the patrol called serious injuries to the driver of the car, 48-year old Gregory Delp of Trenton. He was taken to Wright memorial hospital at Trenton and later transferred to liberty hospital.
The truck driver, 65-year old Stephen Curry of St. Paul, Minnesota was not reported hurt. Curry was accused of second degree assault, operating a Motor vehicle while intoxicated resulting in injury, a felony.
The accident happened yesterday morning four miles west of Trenton on highway 6 at about 7:47. Prior to the accident, the patrol received several complaints of the truck driving careless and imprudently.
After impact, the truck hit a guardrail, traveled off the south side of the road, hit an embankment coming to rest on its wheels.
The car was pushed westward and came to rest in both lanes of traffic facing north.
The car was demolished. The truck sustained extensive damage.
Traffic was detoured around that area more than three hours while the accident was investigated.
