Sports : Trenton Blue Jays Finish Third At Chillicothe Tournament

The Trenton American Legion Blue Jays baseball team had an up-and-down weekend at Shaffer Park, but salvaged third place in the tournament hosted by the Chillicothe Cardinals.

Chillicothe got the best of Trenton in Friday night's opener, winning by a score of 12-2. Matt Safley took the loss. The score was 2-1 Cardinals going into the sixth inning, when the floodgates opened on the Blue Jays, with Chillicothe scoring five runs in both and 6th and 7th innings.

On Saturday, the Blue Jays edged Sedalia by a final score of 10-9. Kylan Easley was the winning pitcher, scattering six hits with nine strikeouts. Matt Safley, Kylan Easley, and Alex Macomber all had two hits. Trenton made it a clean Saturday sweep with a 13-3 win over Brookfield, with Ty Stillwell earning the win, allowing three hits and striking out two.

On Sunday, Trenton fought back late but came up short to the tournament champions from Moberly, 17-14. Hadley Williams took the loss. Trenton was down 9-0 after two innings, but outscored Moberly 14-8 in the final five frames. Safley, Williams, Macomber, Lenz, and Richardson all had two hits.

Trenton is now 6-4 on the summer season. The Blue Jays will host Brookfield on Thursday night at 6 o'clock from Burleigh Grimes Field.
