The Highway Patrol said a car driven by 37-year old Tammy McMurray was in the left lane when she apparently fell asleep and the car went off the left side, into the median. The driver apparently over-corrected, with the car crossing into the northbound lanes and going off the other side of I-35, where it struck an embankment and overturned twice, coming to rest upright.

Taken by ambulance to Liberty Hospital were Ms. McMurray as well as three passengers; 13 year old Trinity Heckey, 13 year old Evangeline Heckey, and ten-year old Elizabeth McMurray. Each were described as having moderate injuries. The car was demolished in the Monday night (7:35 PM) accident, three miles north of Holt. All four people were wearing seat belts.
