Former NCMC All-American Stephanie Beason has been named the head coach and athletic director at Cottey College, a two year all-women's college in Nevada, Missouri. She replaces David Ketterman, the long-time head coach of the Comets.

Ketterman was hired, this week, as an assistant coach for the Northeastern State (Oklahoma) Riverhawks in Tahlequah. During his time with the Comets, who compete at the NJCAA Division II level, Ketterman compiled a 131-104 record that included one Region 16 Regular Season Championship (2009) and three runner-up finishes (2006-08). He guided Cottey to seven winning seasons over the past nine years, and the team earned top-20 national rankings in four of the past six campaigns.

Beason had spent the last three seasons as head coach of the Ancilla College, a two-year school in Donaldson, Indiana.

A native of Norwood, Missouri, Stephanie spent four years as an assistant for the Highland Community College women’s basketball team in Highland, Kansas (from 2007 to 2011), the final two years with the Scotties serving as the Associate Head Coach under then-Highland, and former NCMC head coach James Arnold. Beason previously played for Arnold at North Central Missouri College, where she was a 1st Team NJCAA All-American.

She spent her junior year at NCAA D-2 program University of Alaska-Anchorage, where she led the team in minutes played and scoring.  Her season was highlighted by a 37 point performance in the Great Alaskan Shootout against NCAA D1 opponent Eastern Washington University.

Following that season, Beason took time off due to injury and joined Arnold’s coaching staff at North Central Missouri College, helping the team to a 14-2 record. After rehabbing the injury, Beason headed to Fairmont State College (NCAA DII) in West Virginia to finish her playing career.

Beason holds an Associate of Arts degree from North Central Missouri College, a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Fairmont State University, and a master’s degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion with a specialization in sport psychology from California University of Pennsylvania.
