17 year old Edgar Hernandez was taken to Cameron Regional Medical Center, and later flown by medical helicopter to Truman Medical Center at Kansas City.

The patrol said Hernandez was the driver of a northbound car which traveled off the left side of I-35 at a crossover median, went airborne, hit the ground, traveled into the southbound passing lane and collided head-on with a southbound pickup. The driver of the truck, 66 year old William Wyant of Martinsville, was not reported hurt.

Both vehicles were demolished in the accident 5 miles north of Cameron at the 61 mile marker.

The patrol said Wyant was wearing a seatbelt, but Hernandez was not.
