54 year old Robert Bankson was flown by medical helicopter to Truman Medical Center in Kansas City. The highway patrol described his injuries as serious.

The state patrol said Bankson was southbound when he attempted to make a lane change (from driving to passing) but observed another vehicle in his way (in passing lane) Bankson then apparently over-corrected with his sports utility
vehicle skidding off the west side of I-35.

The under-carriage struck a ditch causing the S-U-V to overturn. Bankson was ejected through the sun roof.

The S-U-V came to rest on its top. The vehicle was demolished.

The wreck happened three miles north of Cameron at 3:15 Monday afternoon.

The patrol noted Bankson was not using a seat belt.

In addition to the investigating officer, the highway patrol accident report said assistance was provided by five troopers, the K-A-W fire protection district, and the Daviess county sheriff's department.
