News : Eagle Scout Honors And Court Of Honor Held For Boy Scout Troop 97

Six boys of Troop 97 received their Eagle Award last night during ceremonies held at First Christian Church.

The six joined Cub Scouts together in 2002 and were presented their Eagle as a group the day after their high school graduation. Ceremonies were conducted by Kevin Bailey, Dr. Paul Cox and Bill Vaughn, all members of Troop 97.

Gannon Albrecht, son of Quentin and Becky Albrecht; Jacob Hamilton, son of Steve and
Vanessa Hamilton; Charlie Hoffman, son of Phil and Connie Hoffman; Jacob Marlay, son of Jamia Marlay; Isaiah Swann, son of Steve Swann and John and Linda Cowling; and Sam Woodson, son of Warren and Mary Woodson joined Troop 97 in January 2007.

Between them all they would hold every leadership position in the Troop, collectively earn 197 merit badges and spend 172 nights camping.

Gannon Albrecht cleaned and repainted the U.S. maps on the north and south sidewalks at S.M. Rissler Elementary School. He is a Firebuilder in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say with the tribal name of “Short Quill”.

Jacob Hamilton built oak bookcases and created a library at Tenth Street Baptist Church. He is a also a Firebuilder in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say and goes by “Black Mountain”.

Charlie Hoffman, who is a third generation Eagle Scout, cleared and mulched a trail at the Scout Camp west of Trenton. He also identified trees with plaques to be used as an educational area as well. Charlie “Smaller Strange One” joins his Father and Grandfather in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say as well as numerous uncles and cousins.

Jacob Marlay chose the Open Door Church to give a facelift and improve curb appeal by staining the building and walkway as well as installing a sign on the side of the building. Jacob is a Warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say and goes by the name of “Turns to Fire”.

The dugouts at VanMeter Park were cleaned and stained for Isaiah Swann ’s Eagle Project. Isaiah is also a Warrior in Mic-O-Say going by the name of “Seeks the Spear”.

Sam Woodson stained the enclosed Kiwanis Shelter House in Moberly Park to complete his Eagle Project. Sam is a Runner in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say and goes by the name of “Little Builds Dream.”

Each Eagle Scout received resolutions honoring their achievement from State Representative Mike Lair and Senator Brad Lager. In addition, Rick Crow, with Trenton Elks No. 801, presented each Eagle with a certificate and a U.S. Flag in recognition of their achievement.


Boy Scout Troop 97 held its Court of Honor ceremonies on Monday, May 19th at the First
Christian Church in Trenton.

Scouts receiving rank advancements included: Scout and Tenderfoot – Eric Hines, Aidan
McAtee, Payden McCullough, Jake McNabb, Elijah Merrin, Jimmy Miller, Cole Soptic, Kayden
Spencer, Coy Taylor, and Canyon VonBurg; First Class – Corey Marrs, Braxton Smith, Jaren
Whitney and Ben Woodson; Eagle Scout – Gannon Albrecht, Jacob Hamilton, Charlie Hoffman,
Jacob Marlay, Isaiah Swann, and Sam Woodson. Receiving Eagle Palms was Sam Woodson, silver and gold.

Twenty-five boys earned 78 merit badges including:

Chase Marsh – Camping

Aidan McAtee – Citizenship in the Community and First Aid

Kail McCarter – Cooking

Payden McCullough – Citizenship in the Community, Communication, Emergency Prep and First Aid

Jake McNabb – Citizenship in the Community, Communication, Emergency Prep and First Aid

Elijah Merrin – Citizenship in the Community and First Aid

Jimmy Miller – Citizenship in the Community, Communication, Emergency Prep and First Aid

Nick Shields – Citizenship in the World and Personal Management

Braxton Smith – Auto Maintenance, Citizenship in the Nation, Communication,Emergency Prep, Family Life, Genealogy and Mammal Study

Cole Soptic – Citizenship in the Community, Communication, Emergency Prep and First Aid

Kayden Spencer - Citizenship in the Community, Communication, Emergency Prep and First Aid
