Sports : Class 2 State Track Meet Filled After Saturday's Sectionals

Class 2 sectional track and field meets were contested at Linn High School (NE Missouri) and Kearney High School (NW Missouri) on Saturday, with top four individual finishers advancing to the Class 2 state meet this weekend in Jefferson City.

At the Class 2, Section 2 meet at Linn High School, Milan High School senior Tristan Fowler became the only Wildcat to advance to state, finishing second in the high jump competition, with a leap of 5 feet, 10 inches. Putnam County will send a handful of athletes to Lincoln University, with Haley Bradshaw finishing fourth in the discus and fourth in the shot put. Jacob Parker was fourth in the 110 meter high hurdles, and fourth in the 300 hurdles, while Riley Wood finishing runner-up in the shot put, with an effort of 44 feet 4 1/2 inches.

Brookfield and Marceline will send three student-athletes each for individual competitions, while both the Bulldogs and Tigers will have relay squads at Dwight T. Reed Stadium. The Brookfield 4 by 800 boy's team finished fourth in sectionals, with the Lady 'Dogs 4 by 800 squad also finishing fourth. The Marceline 4 by 400 girl's squad won its sectional race, with a time of 4:16.24.

Brookfield's Sassie Matzen was third in the 1600 meter run, while winning the 800 meter run with a time of 2:22.88. Lady 'Dog senior Alesa Frey won the pole vault at sectionals, with an effort of 11 feet, 6 inches. She finished runner-up in the triple jump (33' 2"). BHS senior Zach McConkey was fourth in the boys triple jump.

A larger number of area athletes competed in the Class 2, Section 4 meet at Kearney High School on Saturday. As in previous stories posted today, we will give you the names of the area athletes that qualified for state. A winning time or distance will be included for those finishing first!

Northwest Missouri track and field standouts participated in the Class 2, Section 4 on Saturday afternoon at Kearney High School. Those finishing in the top four of their event advanced to the state meet this weekend in Jefferson City.
