While the tornadic storms predicted by the National Weather Service stayed well south of northern Missouri, a strong line of thunderstorms rolled through the region just past the noon hour on Sunday, bringing hail, high winds, and sporadic damage reports.

The line of thunderstorms showed a steady strength, even growing stronger as it moved into eastern Iowa by mid-to-late afternoon, with tornado warnings for those locations.

Damage reports in Missouri included "road signs blown down and a tin roof blown from a shed" at Meadville (1:59 PM), "tree limbs down" at Chillicothe (1:55 PM), 10 inch diameter tree limbs broken" at Laredo (1:59 PM), "power lines down" at Bucklin (2:12 PM), and "a large hog barn blown apart and 6 to 12 inch trees down" six miles south of Unionville (2:20 PM).

One inch diameter hail was reported ten miles south of Pattonsburg (12:50 PM), and at Chillicothe (1:55 PM). Chillicothe also had reports of 3/4 inch hail, and wind gusts of 60 to 70 miles per hour. Three separate reports of 3/4 inch hail came in from Sullivan County between 2:10 and 2:25 PM, with two reports from Milan, and the later report coming seven miles west of Pollock.

The system that caused the nasty weather (and deadly weather across Arkansas), will slowly slide east of Missouri today. Areas near the Mississippi River, including St. Louis, are in a risk area of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes again by Monday afternoon, but the north-central Missouri area is expected to remain west of the expected severe storms.
