WARRENSBURG, MO (KCTV) -A substitute teacher for Warrensburg schools had admitted to downloading and watching explicit videos of children engaged in sex acts, according to authorities.

Thirty-year-old Joshua Berry Daniel Woodard was arrested Wednesday at Ridge View Elementary. The school district hired him as a substitute teacher in October.

According to a court affidavit supporting the charges against Woodard, police found the unsettling photos and videos inside a large home in an upscale neighborhood on Manitou Way Drive. They were on a laptop that was sitting next to the teacher's bed in the basement of the home.

Neighbors said they didn't know Woodard. Some said they never saw him. Others thought the 30-year-old just mowed the lawn for the sweet 60-something couple who own the house and have the same last name.

The aforementioned affidavit described some of the files they saw on Woodard's laptop. Those described included either boys or girls, all of whom were described as appearing to be between 7 and 11 years old.

Woodard was found out in January when a trooper was trolling a file sharing website where someone with the Woodards' IP address sent the trooper child porn videos.

The trooper who wrote the affidavit said that when Woodard was arrested at Ridgeview Elementary, he admitted to downloading child porn and even detailed his preferences and history.

A spokeswoman for the Warrensburg School District said substitute teachers get the same security checks that full-time teachers do. That includes fingerprinting, a review of any past criminal activity and a background check.

"In addition," wrote Community Relations Director Mary Castro, "the district supervises staff closely, and peer-to-peer observations are also strong. The district has no evidence of inappropriate behavior by Mr. Woodard while substituting in our schools."
