Sports : Hornets Tip Trenton In Tight Tennis Duel

The visiting Chillicothe Hornets improved their spring record to 3-2, claiming a 5-4 varsity win over Trenton in action on Tuesday afternoon from the THS Tennis Courts.

The teams evenly split six singles matches, leaving the doubles results to decide the team battle. Chillicothe claimed two of three doubles matches, and the win. The Hornets are now 3-2 on the season, dropping Trenton to 2-4.

#3 Singles: Chillicothe's Peterson d. Trenton's Davis 8-6

#5 Singles: Chillicothe's Lamp d. Trenton's Marlay 9-7
#6 Singles: Chillicothe's Lewis d. Trenton's Fletchall 8-5

#1 Doubles: Trenton's Swann/Davis d. Chillicothe's Poling/Sims 8-6
#2 Doubles: Chillicothe's McKiddy/Peterson d. Trenton's Utley/Houghton 9-8
#3 Doubles: Chillicothe's Lamp/Lewis d. Trenton's Marlay/Fletchall 8-5

The schools played five junior varsity doubles matches against one another, with the Hornets taking three victories to Trenton's two. Here are the results:

3. Chillicothe's Carmack/Horton d. Trenton's Whitney/Gv. Albrecht 6-0

5. Trenton's Parrack/Gilham d. Chillicothe's Akers/Winfrey 7-5

Trenton's tennis team will next be in action on Monday afternoon, traveling to Kirksville for a 4 o'clock duel with the host Tigers.
