Sports : NCMC Lady Pirates Swept By Three Rivers Raiders

Potential post-season seeding for North Central Missouri College Lady Pirates took a significant blow this weekend, with NCMC suffering a four-game sweep to the hands of the visiting Three Rivers (CC) Raiders in action at Griffin Field.

In Friday afternoon's game one, the Lady Pirates fell by a score of 8-7, with seven errors hurting a normally strong North Central defense. Scotin Hurley had a pair of RBI's and scored three runs for North Central, but took the loss, despite giving up only three earned runs.

Game two saw the Raiders shut down the Lady Pirates, 3-1. Randi Davis had an RBI single for the Lady Pirates that scored Tierney Martin. Lauren White threw well from the pitching slab, going the complete game seven innings, and giving up three runs on seven hits.

Looking for a Saturday rebound, NCMC instead found more frustration, with Three Rivers taking the opening game of the doubleheader, 3-2, in an eight inning thriller. For the offense, Shelby Salter scored two runs, with Hailey Lowery and Demesha Huddleston picking up RBI's. Scotlin Hurley, despite throwing 7 2/3 innings of tough softball, was the hard-luck loser.

The Raiders, in the fourth and final game of the weekend series, walloped the Lady Pirates in Saturday's finale, 9-1. Tierney Martin drove in the only run for NCMC, scoring Macie Kinsey with a second inning base hit. Lauren White suffered the pitching defeat.

The losses drop North Central's record to 20-17 on the season. The Lady Pirates have a few off days before making the short trip to Lamoni, Iowa on Thursday afternoon to battle the Yellowjacket JV from Graceland University. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 2 o'clock.
