The Trenton fire department received a call just before 3 o'clock this morning regarding the structure fire. Upon arrival, firemen reported the house as fully involved with flames. The department said a cause is Undetermined.
A spokesman for the Trenton fire department said the occupant of the house was Jordan Lopez. The structure actually is owned by his relatives who were described as now out of the area. Lieutenant Mike Moore said Lopez awoke to a crackling noise. When he opened a bedroom door, there was a wall of smoke.
That caused Lopez to escape the fire by breaking, and then crawling out, a window. Moore said he understands Lopez received stitches when he was treated at Wright Memorial Hospital for lacerations due to cuts from the broken glass.
Firefighters were at the scene for three and a half hours this morning before daybreak. Assisting Trenton firemen at the scene was the Grundy County Rural Fire Protection District; Grundy County ambulance services; and Trenton Police.
