The person reporting the incident was the same individual that had shot the dog.

It was reported the dog was running at large and charged the individual on the callers property which prompted the shooting of the animal.

An investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff's Department showed the caller had discharged a 9 millimeter handgun multiple times on the caller's property, striking the dog more than once. The dog had previously been restrained on the owner's property, but, had recently broken free from the harness and, was running loose.

It was reported a small child was playing outside the dog owner's home, but the investigation suggests that the child was not near the line of fire from the handgun being discharged.

This is the second incident on the caller's property as a different dog from the same owner had been shot in the past for reportedly running loose and aggressively approaching a neighbor.

A veterinarian has treated the dog, and, at last report the dog is recovering.

Once the investigation is complete, a report will be forwarded to the Livingston County Prosecuting Attorney, Adam Warren for review and consideration.

Livingston County does not have a leash law, but, the State Of Missouri requires all animal owners maintain control of their animals.
