News : Woman Goes To Hospital With Stomach Pains, Comes Home With Baby

SEYMOUR, CT (WFSB) - A Connecticut woman thought she was having a gall bladder attack and it turns out she was actually having a baby.

A Seymour woman, who came home from the hospital Tuesday with her new baby boy, told her story exclusively to Eyewitness News.

Cole Dillman was born on Saturday and weighed 9 pounds, 3 ounces. He was a total surprise to his parents.

"I couldn't believe it. It's amazing. Thank God they're both all right, both healthy," said father Matthew Dillman.

Jennifer Scollin and Dillman already have a 4-year-old daughter together, Kelsey. They always wanted another child but never thought it would happen like this.

"How could you not know you have something going inside of you week after week?" Scollin said. "I believe it now. This is proof "

For the past 9 months, Scollin said she had no idea she was pregnant.

With little weight gain and no changes in her monthly cycle, Scollin said there were no obvious signs.

"It was nothing comparable to how I was with her," Scollin said. "I mean I could see my belly move and her fit and her foot. This time I didn't even think I had an enormous belly. I mean, obviously I didn't."

It wasn't until four days ago, which was the morning Cole was born, that she noticed something was wrong.

At first Scollin said she thought it was a stomach bug, but the pain kept getting worse. Finally Scollin called Dillman at work, who then called an ambulance

"I said, I don't know what it is. You need to come home," Dillman said.

Then, at the top of the stairs at their home, Scollin said her water broke and that was then she knew she was pregnant.

"All of a sudden it felt like when I was giving birth the first time," Scollin said.

Scollin said they didn't even make it to the hospital and EMTs delivered baby Cole in an ambulance in their driveway.

"It was a blur," Scollin said. "All I know it is I pushed twice and they were like. 'you have a baby boy.'"

At first, Scollin and Dillman said they were scared because she never took prenatal vitamins.

But once they found out the baby was OK, they were overjoyed.

"It's a fantastic feeling," Scollin said. "It really is."

Although it's rare, doctors said what happened to Scollin is possible. Even if a woman has been pregnant before, pregnancies can be "different."
