News : Spickard Firefighters Respond To Machinery Fire

The Spickard Fire Protection District reports a piece of heavy machinery was destroyed by fire last evening six miles northwest of Spickard.

The fire was confined to a trac-loader that had been used in a field. The location was off Kellogg Road in southern Mercer County.

Training Officer Jesse Richmond said the machinery was owned by Elliott Holthouse of Liberty. Richmond estimated the loss at 20 to 25 thousand dollars. He quoted the operator as hearing a pop; then the cab became involved with fire; and it spread to the engine compartment.

Richmond said the trac-loader had been used yesterday to build a “fire break line” in preparation to have a controlled burn of C-R-P ground.

Nine firefighters and three apparatus from the Spickard department were
at the scene for approximately one hour Tuesday evening.
