Upon arrival, fire was seen through a second floor window on the east side.

All occupants of the four apartments had evacuated the structure.

The report states fire was found to be between the ceiling of the first level and the floor on the second level. The fire also spread to the walls.

The state fire marshal's office was contacted and a representative came to the scene last night. The Chillicothe report indicated a preliminary investigation has not been able to determine the cause of the fire. But the investigation is to continue today.

Chillicothe firemen described fire and smoke damage as moderate for two of the apartment units and a lesser amount of smoke in the other two apartments. The report listed the loss as approximately 30 thousand dollars for the property and contents.

Firefighters were at the scene at 444 Jackson for more than four hours overnight.

The report listed the occupants as Terry Ashford, Lisa Mathews, and Jodi Cooper.

The owner of the building is Jim Summerville of Chillicothe.
