Sports : NCMC Holiday Hoops Announces Six New Schools For 2014 Event

With high school basketball season over for the year, activity remains brisk with the commitments to the 10th annual High School Holiday Hoops scheduled for December 2014 and January 2015 at North Central Missouri College.

Sponsored by the North Central Missouri College Foundation, the 2014 edition of “Hoops” already has eighty-three teams committed from 44 Missouri high schools. What is expected to be the biggest hoops event in the ten-year history, an estimated 100 teams are anticipated for the twelve day event on the campus of North Central Missouri College in Trenton.

New teams that have contracted thus far include Higbee, Keytesville, the boys of Knob Noster joining their girls who participated last year, Van Horn of Independence and Wellington-Napoleon. Others are expected to be announced as contracts are completed. Odessa High School returns after a long absence to join the 2014 school in competition.

Returning schools contracted at this time are Albany, Brashear, Braymer, Bucklin/Macon County, Cameron, Carrollton, Chillicothe, East Harrison, Gallatin, Gilman City, Green City, Grundy R-5, Hale, Hardin-Central, King City, Kirksville, Lafayette of St. Joseph, Lawson, Linn County, Maysville, Meadville, Mound City, Newtown-Harris, Nodaway-Holt, Norborne, North Harrison, North Mercer, Pattonsburg, Penney of Hamilton, Plattsburg, Polo, Princeton, Putnam County, Richmond, Savannah, Southwest Livingston, Trenton and Winston.

Sanctioned by the Missouri State High School Activities Association, Holiday Hoops remains the largest high school holiday basketball event in the state.

Volunteers are also signing up with the anticipated interest of lots of special promotions during the anniversary event. Interested teams and volunteers may contact Hoops Coordinator Steve Maxey at 660-359-7244.
