News : Grundy R-5 Board Of Education Meeting Report

Grundy R-5 Board of Education last evening approved next years’ school calendar, accept a bus transportation proposal, and considered personnel contracts.

The current school calendar was amended to add May 22nd as the last day of classes provided no more days are missed due to inclement weather. Other adjustments include full days of classes on May 16th and 21st with the early out moved to May 9th. Regarding the 2014-15 school year, classes begin August 18th at Grundy R-5. A hearing was held on setting the date before Labor Day.

The board approved a transportation proposal from Applebus Company—the districts’ current transportation provider. Applebus will take of the school transportation needs through the 2018-19 school year. The proposal includes a four point eight percent increase the first year and three point eight percent

increases in each subsequent year of the transportation contract. (covers 5 years) Grundy R-5’s board accepted the resignation of Sarah Jackson as Title One, reading recovery instructor effective at the end of the current school term. She accepted a position with another district. Following a closed session, the board voted to offer contracts to all probationary teachers with the exception of second grade instructor Carla Neeley. Salaries for next year are to be determined later.

The vote on Mrs. Neeley’s contract shows all seven opposed.

Parent teacher conferences are Grundy R-5 are next Thursday, March 20, from 1 o’clock until 6 o’clock. Classes will be dismissed that day at 11:30 at the high school in Galt and 11:40 at the elementary building in Humphreys. No school will be held the next day, March 21st, at Grundy r-5.

The board approved covering the basic cost for faculty and staff health screenings at a cost of 15 dollars a person. Also approved was a proposal of a ten dollar increase pay for non certified substitutes, The pay becomes 60 dollars a day.

Among reports was the federal review of the school lunch program. It’s conducted every three years.

Discussion also was held on a grant opportunity with the Missouri Department of Conservation.
