Sports : Trenton "Tames The Tigers" In District Quarterfinal Win

The Trenton Bulldogs played a strong first half, and survived a poor fourth quarter, in a 73-61 win over the Plattsburg Tigers on Tuesday night that moves THS into a district semifinal on Thursday against Bishop LeBlond.

Trenton led by 20 at halftime, and pushed the lead into the middle 20's throughout the third quarter, but slumped in the final eight minutes, as Plattsburg mounted a furious comeback effort, but never got closer than nine points in the final minutes. In a balanced scoring night, Trenton was led by Cree Mullenix with 16 points, while Chris Flowers had 15, Chase Tolson 14, and Colton Neff 11. Plattsburg point guard Braden Price led all scorers with a 23 point night, while David Hartman chipped in with 11.

The win pushes the Bulldogs into a Thursday night semifinal (7:30 PM) against the third-seeded LeBlond Golden Eagles, who throttled the Penney Hornets on Tuesday night, 80-53. The Eagles were led by Quentin Obermier with 21 points and Connor Haynes with 11, in improving to 13-11 on the season. Penney had 15 points from Jaran Richman and 10 from Zach Grossman.

Tuesday night's Trenton game, and Thursday night's Trenton game, are both planned for broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7 and

On the top half of the Class 3, District 16 boy's bracket, the top-seeded Lawson Cardinals disposed of long-time rival Lathrop, winning on the Mules home floor, 62-27. Mason Cox had 17 points for the Cardinals. Lawson will play Maryville on Thursday night at 6 o'clock, after the Spoofhounds handled the Cameron Dragons, 54-42. Ty Hilsabeck led the 'Hounds with 12 points. Sean Gray had 19 for the Dragons.

Lathrop High School is hosting this week's Class 3, District 16 basketball tournament.
