Spickard Fire Protection District Training Officer, Jesse Richman, who did not give the name or age of the boy, explained the youth had been in the silo by himself, but another person or persons got the silage off him. The boy was removed from the silo by Spickard firefighters. Richman indicated the boy was conscious, alert, and talked with emergency personnel at the scene.

A Grundy County Rural Fire Department spokesman said the 12 year old boy was taken by ambulance to the Trenton Airport where he was flown by medical helicopter to an unknown location.

The Spickard Fire Protection District Training Officer noted the boy was about 37 feet off the ground.

Richman said the location was on a farm 3 to 4 miles west of Spickard off Route C and 110th Street.

Grundy County Rural Fire Protection District volunteers and the Grundy County Ambulance Service also were called to the scene.

Firefighters and medical personnel were on the scene about one hour.
