ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – In Missouri, a new kind of meth is coming in and it’s no longer homegrown, it’s coming in from Mexico.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Jason Grellner says that Mexican meth arrived first in Kansas City then arrived in the St. Louis area along interstate 70 and it often goes out by passenger or freight train.

“We’re seeing passengers that are using their luggage to conceal narcotics as well as, I know, the shipment that was made in what was reported to be paint. Five gallons of paint and many of the buckets actually contained methamphetamine,” says Grellner.

He says the Mexican meth is replacing homegrown meth after 71 communities across Missouri restricted the sale of pseudo-ephedrine products. The crystal meth from Mexico is harder to track because it’s not linked to the clue of people buying large quantities of cold pills.
