Sports : Trenton Bulldogs Finish Sixth At Districts, Advance 5 To State

Marceline edged Brookfield and South Harrison in the Class 1, District 4 wrestling tournament finished at Brookfield High School on Saturday afternoon, Trenton finished sixth.

Marceline had 127 1/2 points, just 2 1/2 points in front of Brookfield and South Harrison (both at 125). Fourth place Maysville was close behind with 120, fifth place Gallatin 114, and sixth-place Trenton 102 1/2 points. That group was followed by Maryville, Albany, Rock Port, Penney, Stanberry, Hallsville, Southwest Livingston, Tarkio, and South Holt.

Trenton had FIVE state qualifiers. Mason Mounce was first at 170 pounds, Thomas Mack was runner-up at 160, Drew Rorebeck was third at 126, Terrin Ellis was third at heavyweight, and Wynne DeVorss was fourth at 138 pounds.

Trenton wrestlers who scored team points, but did not qualify for state, were Daniel Rodriguez, Colby Weaver, Trey Shields, and Cole Little.

South Harrison had eight state qualifiers. Marceline, Brookfield, Maysville, and Gallatin each had six. State wrestling competition for all four classes begins Thursday, and runs through Saturday, at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.
