Sports : Grundy R-5 Boys To Challenge Meadville In Tourney Title Game

The Grundy R-5 boys, for the second time in three weeks, have advanced to a tournament championship game, beating Bucklin/Macon County on Thursday night, 49-40 at Meadville High School.

Grundy R-5, in the victory, was paced by 17 points from Destin Gann and 15 from Mason Larson. Bucklin/Macon County had 13 points from Daniel Hernandez. The Panthers move into Saturday afternoon's title game (at 5:30) against the top-seeded, state ranked, Meadville Eagles. Meadville stamped its ticket to the final with a 56-46 win over the Tina-Avalon Dragons. Cade Shiflett scored 22 points with Dalton Palmer adding 20 for the Eagles. Max Sinclair had 14 points and Dylan Rucker 11 for the Dragons.

The top seeds in the girls tournament have both advanced into Saturday's final (at 4:00 PM). The North Mercer Lady Cardinals had little trouble with Linn County, rolling to a 55-25 win. Bailey Owens had 20 points and Nicole Kost 12 for Mercer. The Meadville girls had a tighter scrap with Hale, but survived by a final score of 39-30. Halee Neal led the Lady Eagles with 12 points. Morgan Daniels had 13 points for Hale High School.

Girls Consolation Final : Northwestern vs. Bucklin/Macon County at 5:00 PM
Boys Consolation Final : North Mercer vs. Northwestern (Mendon) at 6:15 PM
Girls 3rd Place Game : Linn County vs. Hale at 7:30 PM

Saturday 2/1/14:
Boys 3rd Place Game : Tina-Avalon vs. Bucklin/Macon County at 2:30 PM
Girls Championship Game : North Mercer vs. Meadville at 4:00 PM
Boys Championship Game : Meadville vs. Grundy R-5 at 5:30 PM
