Sports : Chillicothe Hornets Fall In Cameron Tournament Quarterfinals

The top-seeded Chillicothe boys fell to Excelsior Springs 51-49 on Tuesday night, in a Cameron Invitational Tournament quarterfinal contest.

The Hornets drop into the consolation semifinal round, and a meeting with Bishop LeBlond on Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock. LeBlond was defeated by University Academy, 59-52 on Tuesday night. In Chillicothe's loss to the Tigers, the Hornets were led by Mason Hayward with 16 points and Ryan Smith with 10. Excelsior Springs had 18 points from Drake McCant. The Tigers will play University Academy in the first semifinal on Thursday, scheduled for a 5:30 tip.

The second session of Tuesday night's boys semifinals from Cameron were blowouts, with Lawson cruising past Maryville, 71-42, and Smithville downing Cameron, 71-47. Lawson's boys had 21 points from Spencer Wood, 14 from Mason Cox, and 14 from Garrett Titus.

The Lawson Cardinals and Smithville Warriors meet in a boys semifinal on Thursday night at 7 o'clock. Maryville and Cameron play in a boy's consolation semifinal on Thursday at 8:30 PM.

The girl's semifinals will be played on WEDNESDAY night at Cameron High School, with Excelsior Springs against Lawson at 4 o'clock and Maryville against Savannah at 8:30 in the consolation round. In the girl's championship semifinals, St. Joseph Central battles Chillicothe at 5:30, with Cameron and LeBlond dueling at 7 o'clock.
