The South Harrison High School girls and boys basketball teams took convincing first-round wins on Tuesday night at the Hamilton Invitational Basketball Tournament, both moving into Thursday night semifinals against the Trenton Bulldogs.
The South Harrison boys continued their season resurgence with a 71-39 win over the Lathrop Mules. Darin Williams paced the Bulldogs with 26 points, with Corby Clark scoring 16, and Dalton Clemmons 12 points. South Harrison will play the Trenton Bulldogs in the boy's semifinal round, on Thursday night at 6 o'clock (on Hot Country Z 101.7 and www.kgozfm.com). Lathrop drops into the consolation semifinal round, and a meeting with Polo on Wednesday night at 7:30.
Tuesday night's other boys contest from Penney High School saw the Braymer Bobcats down the host Penney Hornets, 49-44. Dillan Hill had 16 points and Logan O'Dell 10 points for the Bobcats. Jaran Richman paced the Hornets with 12 points. The loss drops the Hornets into the consolation final on Friday night at 7:30. Braymer will play the Gallatin Bulldogs in the boy's semifinals on Thursday night at 9 o'clock.
The South Harrison Lady Bulldogs cruised to a 71-47 win over Polo on Tuesday night. South Harrison received 22 points from Hunter Purdun, 16 from Kaylee Smith, and 10 points from Josie Williams. The Lady Bulldogs are now 13-1 on the season, with only a December loss to Bishop LeBlond in the loss column. Polo had 14 points from Danielle Allen, 11 from Tabitha Poje, and 10 points from Adrianna Segar. Polo drops into the consolation final at Friday night at 6 o'clock.
The Lathrop Lady Mules advanced into the semifinals with a hard-earned 59-53 win over Braymer. The top-seed from LHS led by only one point (40-39) after three quarters, before pulling away in the final stanza. Katie Cordray scored 28 points and Isabel Maddick 19 for Lathrop. Braymer had 27 points from Sadie Watson and 14 for Madison Mallory. Lathrop advances to play Gallatin in a girl's semifinal on Thursday night at 7:30. Braymer and Hamilton will play in a girl's consolation semifinal on Wednesday night at 6 o'clock.
