Sports : Grundy R-5 Boys Move Into Meadville Semifinals

The Grundy R-5 boys survived an upset bid by Hale, 60-53, to advance into the Meadville Invitational Tournament semifinals. The Panthers are the #3 seed in the annual event.

Destin Gann scored 20 points for the Panthers, with Cade Mullenix adding 15, Mason Larson 13, and Clayton Radcliff 10 points. For Hale, Haden Huessner had 19 points and Keith Nelson 11. The win moves Grundy R-5 into a semifinal with Bucklin/Macon County on Thursday afternoon at 5:45. BMC beat Northwestern on Tuesday night, 66-48. Dillan Nolte scored 15 points, with Dane Robertson and Daniel Hernandez 10 each for BMC. Mason Gardner had 16 points, Curtis Huffman 13, and Garrett Johnson 10 for the Eagles. The Northwestern boys play Hale Wednesday night at 5:45 in the consolation semifinals.

The Grundy R-5 girls struggled in their game against #2 seed Meadville, with the host Lady Eagles rolling to a 54-24 win. Haley Fitzpatrick scored 23 points and Emilie Cowan 15 for the Lady Eagles. Emily Milazzo scored nine for Grundy R-5. The Lady Panthers will play Bucklin/Macon County in the consolation semifinals on Wednesday afternoon at 4:30. The Meadville girls play Hale in the semifinal round on Thursday afternoon at 4:30.

The Bucklin/Macon County girls were upset by #6 seed Hale, 61-57. The Lady Cardinals had 28 points from Devin Grossman and 23 points from Courtney Eddins. Bailey Ratliff had 21 points, Savannah Jochem 18, and Rachel Akins 14 for B/MC.

The Linn County boys play North Mercer in a consolation semifinal on Wednesday night at 8:15. The Northwestern girls battle Tina-Avalon at 7 o'clock. The Mercer girls will play a semifinal contest against Linn County on Thursday night at 7 o'clock. The Meadville boys play Tina-Avalon Thursday night at 8:15.
