The Trenton High School varsity basketball teams took a pair of victories on Monday night over the Polo Panthers, in games broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7 and www.kgozfm.com.
The Lady Bulldogs, six nights removed from a loss to Chililcothe, picked up their 13th win of the season with a 50-31 victory. Makaila Capeder scored 13 points for THS, with Madi Trump adding 11. For Polo, Maria Rains had 11 and Sidney Copeland nine points. Polo, in pool play, will take on South Harrison on Tuesday night, while Trenton will battle #2 seed South Harrison on Thursday afternoon at 4:30.
The Trenton boys survived a strong upset bid from #7 seed Polo, but survived by a final score of 68-56. Polo was down by only three points with 2:53 to play, but Trenton was able to get defensive stops, hit free throws, and salt the game away, moving to 11-7 on the season. Chase Tolson led the Bulldogs with 25 points, with Chris Flowers scoring 14, and Cree Mullenix 13. Polo's Jackson Pile had a strong night for the Panthers, with 25 points, while Drew Williams netted 14.
Gallatin swept Hamilton in the first two games of the day. The Lady Bulldogs, riding a 21-point effort from Sara Lin, won by a score of 44-38. Morgan Prather had 13 points and Shelby Kruse 9 for the Lady Hornets. The Gallatin boys, up by 16 points at the end of three quarters, had to hold on by their fingernails late, with the Bulldogs escaping with a 62-61 win. The Hornets had a chance to tie the game late, but Penney hit a two-point shot at the buzzer after a pair of three-point shots had failed to go down. Chris Cameron led the Bulldogs with 25 points, with Jacob Boyd scoring 12. For Penney, Korby Ford had a game-high 26 points. Jaran Richman scored 19 and Telly Harper 11.
