The precautionary boil advisory is in effect until 4:30 Wednesday afternoon according to a city official at Mercer.

The outage began sometime late Friday night or early Saturday morning.

The City of Mercer normally gets it's water from Princeton. However, Mercer City Clerk, Colleen Hinshaw, explained a pump froze at Mercer's pump station just north of Princeton. That caused the pump station, including electrical components, to be submerged by water. Therefore, water could not be pumped to Mercer until repairs are made.

So, an emergency line from the Mercer County Public Water Supply District was used to restore water to Mercer. That line had not been used for several years.

The original water outage was discovered early Saturday morning when there was a lack of water to fight a structure fire at Mercer.
