Accidents : Five Injured In Accident Near Maryville

Residents of Powersville and Maryville were hurt Friday night in a two vehicle traffic accident south of Maryville on Highway 71.

The driver of a car, 34 year old Catrina Pelton of Maryville, and passengers in that vehicle, 35 year old Jerry Hughes, 15 year old Zach Hughes, and 10 year old Dalton Hughes all of Maryville, were taken to St. Francis Hospital at Maryville. The highway patrol said Catrina Pelton and Jerry Hughes had moderate injuries while Zach Hughes and Dalton Hughes received minor injuries.

The driver of a sport utility vehicle, 28 year old Nicole Lutz of Powersville, was treated
at the scene for minor injuries and released.

The accident occurred 14 miles south of Maryville at Highway 71 and route M.

Ms. Lutz was westbound after halting at a stop sign, while Ms. Pelton was northbound on Highway 71. The northbound car hit the driver's side of the SUV. Both vehicles were demolished.

All five persons were wearing seatbelts.
