The Trenton Bulldogs, anchored by a defense led by 6'7" junior center Chris Flowers, beat the Chillicothe Hornets for the first time since 2001, by a final score of 54-46 on Tuesday night.
Flowers was a major factor in forcing the Hornets into a poor shooting night, with Chillicothe only hitting 19 field goals on the evening. Chase Tolson led the Bulldogs with 17 points, with Flowers adding 14, and Colton Neff scoring 10. Trenton never trailed in the contest, in improving to 10-7 on the season. The loss drops Chillicothe's mark to 9-5. Tyler Clampitt led the Hornets with 13 points, while Mason Hayward and Ryan Smith both scored 10.
The Chillicothe girls took the lead early, and despite Trenton tying the game at 17 at the half, the Lady Hornets took back in the advantage in the second half and never gave it up, in a 52-42 road win at Trenton High School. Strong man-to-man defense against Trenton's guards played a large factor for Chillicothe, now 10-4 on the season. The Lady Hornets were able to break a three-game losing streak, picked up in an eighth-place showing at last week's Bulldog Classic at Kearney High School.
Freshman point guard Hannah Jones was able to slam the door on Trenton late, hitting a number of clutch free throws in the fourth quarter to seal the win. She finished with 14 points, with shooting guard Whitney Clampitt adding 14. For Trenton, senior forward Makaila Capeder had 16 points, with the Lady Bulldogs struggling to fit a consistent second option throughout the night. Trenton, with the loss, drops to 12-5.
