Sports : Grundy R-5 Boys, Mercer Girls Advance To Milan Tournament Title Games

The Grundy R-5 boys used a sizzling first-half shooting performance from Clayton Radcliff to beat the Brookfield Bulldogs 66-52 in the Milan Tournament semifinals on Wednesday night.

Radcliff finished with 19 points, with Destin Gann matching that mark with 19 for the Panthers, who move into the Milan Tournament championship game on Saturday night against the top-seeded Novinger Wildcats. On Thursday night, Novinger took care of the Newtown-Harris Tigers by a score of 59-41. The boy's title game will be Saturday night at 8 o'clock, on KTTN FM 92.3 and www.kttn.com, with Tom Johnson and Dennis Stephenson on the play-by-play call. Cade Mullenix, in Grundy R-5's semifinal win, added 11 points.

The Brookfield Lady 'Dogs are mowing their way through the competition at Milan, blitzing Green City in Wednesday night's semifinal round, 54-21. Brookfield will play the unbeaten North Mercer Lady Cardinals in Saturday night's championship game (6:30 PM on KTTN FM 92.3 and www.kttn.com). North Mercer breezed past Milan in Thursday night's girls semifinal, by a score of 55-25.

Consolation semifinal final scores, from Wednesday night, were: Green City boys 58, Milan 54 (Overtime); Newtown-Harris girls 50, Novinger 35. Thursday night's consolation semifinal results from Milan High School were: North Mercer boys 50, Linn County 37; Linn County girls 73, Grundy R-5 30

On Friday night at the Milan Tournament, the girls consolation final at 5 o'clock matches up Newtown-Harris and Linn County. North Mercer and Green City play in the boy's consolation final at 6:30, with Green City and Milan playing in the girl's third place game at 8 o'clock.

Saturday's schedule features the boy's third place game at 5 o'clock between Newtown-Harris and Brookfield, followed by the championship games, both to be broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3, with Brookfield vs. North Mercer girls at 6:30, and the Novinger vs. Grundy R-5 boys at 8 o'clock.
