Trenton Fire Department Lieutenant, Eric Lorenz, has provided the Trenton City Council with a summary of Fire Department activities during the past year.
They included 37 fires, 14 involved structures, 5 vehicles, and what was listed as 18 other fires.
The Trenton Fire Department provided mutual aid to the Grundy County Rural Fire Protection District for 10 fire calls and 8 motor vehicle accidents. The Trenton Department provided mutual aid once to the Chillicothe Fire Department for a fire call.
In the category of rescues---there were 112 medical assists, 15 motor vehicle accidents, and 1 rescue only described as â€śotherâ€ť.
There were 23 calls involving hazardsâ€”including gas leaks, carbon monoxide, downed power lines, and fluid and debris cleanup from motor vehicle accidents.
The Trenton Fire Department, last year, made 114 fuel quality checks at the airport and 55 trips to fuel aircraft.
There were 22 calls involving smoke removal, unauthorized burning, and what was listed as various other public assistance requests.
There also were 21 false alarms including alarm system activations and smoke detector activations because of malfunctions.
Another 25 calls were included a category called good intent---such as dispatched and cancelled in route, smoke scares, and investigations of legal outdoor burning.
Trenton Fire Lieutenant, Eric Lorenz' report also said there were at least 34 prevention activities which included talks with various groups, car seat installations, fire extinguisher trainings, inspections, and fire station tours. Lorenz indicated the number actually was more than that since some of prevention activities were not documented.
The Trenton Fire department hosted 15 training sessions last year. They included monthly training with the Grundy County Rural Fire Protection District, and
University of Missouri fire rescue training classes for all area departments.
The Trenton Fire Department has 5 full-time members---the Chief, 3 Lieutenants, and 1 1 person with the rank of Firefighter. The 5 members is a reduction of 1from the year 2012. The Trenton Department has 21 paid per call Firefighters, and 3 resident Firefighters.
The Trenton Fire Explorer program last year had 11 Explorers, 1 Captain, and 3 Lieutenants ranging in age from 13 to 19. They received education and training, and provided assistance to Firefighters.
