A Family Christmas trip to Trenton has led an Iowa woman to a Missouri Lottery prize of $100,000 when she uncovered the first of five top prizes available in the “Crossword Doubler” scratchers game.

Although Nicole Supinger of Mount Ayr claimed her prize a couple of days later, she did not immediately realize what her ticket was worth.

Supinger’s boyfriend, Ron, had purchased two tickets at Casey’s General Store (203 East 9th Street) in Trenton, and then let his girlfriend pick the one she wanted to play.

After making her selection, she shared the fun by allowing another family member to scratch the ticket. Thinking that the ticket revealed a $500 prize, she was happy with her first substantial Lottery win.

It was not until the retailer indicated that the ticket would have to be cashed at a Lottery office that the pieces began to fall together.

“We went out to eat after that, and he was looking at it upside down,” Supinger explained of the moment something caught her boyfriend’s eye across the table. “He noticed that it hadn’t all been scratched, that the M hadn’t been scratched off.”

That realization increased the value of her ticket 200 fold. Supinger plans to put some of her winnings in a trust for her four children “and let it build some interest, so they’re better off than I was.”

The “$100,000 Crossword Doubler” game officially began October 14th. In addition to the top prizes, the five dollar ticket also offers thousands of prizes ranging from $5 to $20,000. Remaining prizes for all Scratchers games can be found on the Lottery’s app, available through the Apple App Store or Google Play.
