Sports : Grundy R-5 Boys Advance to HDC Tournament Semifinals

The Grundy R-5 boys basketball team has advanced into the semifinal round of the HDC Conference Basketball Tournament in Jamesport, after a 60-40 win on Monday night against the North Harrison Shamrocks.

Clayton Radcliff led the Panther scoring barrage with 16 points, with Stuart Eller adding 14, Mason Larson 12, and Destin Gann nine. The win pushes the Panthers into a Wednesday night semifinal win the top-seeded East Harrison Bobcats. East Harrison took care of eight-seeded Tri-County in quarterfinal action on Monday night, 63-47. For North Harrison, in the loss to Grundy, Reed Hallock led the Shamrocks with 11 points. North Harrison's boys will play Tri-County in a consolation semifinal on Thursday night at 6:15.

The bottom half of the girls bracket has a semifinal set for Wednesday night, with the #2 seed Pattonsburg Lady Panthers playing the #3 seed North Harrison Lady Shamrocks at 7:30. In quarterfinal round action on Monday night, Pattonsburg beat Grundy R-5, 69-50, with North Harrison downing East Harrison, 50-28.

In Pattonsburg's win, Kelly Warford led all scorers, with 32 points for the winning side, while Haley Plymell added 12 points. For Grundy R-5, a team still searching for its first win of 2013-2014, Elizabeth Novak had 16 points, Kiley Littleton 14, and Emily Milazzo nine. Grundy R-5's girls will aim for their first win of the season on Thursday night, playing East Harrison in a 5 o'clock consolation semifinal.

On Tuesday night from Tri-County High School, quarterfinals to be played will be the Mercer boys (#2 seed) against Pattonsburg at 5:00, the Mercer girls (#1 seed) against Newtown-Harris at 6:15, the Winston boys (#3 seed) against Newtown-Harris at 7:30, and the Gilman City girls (#4 seed) against Winston at 8:45.
