Three persons were injured, two of them seriously, in accidents just minutes apart yesterday morning six miles south of Chillicothe.
The highway patrol said a tractor trailer was backing eastbound across Route Z into a parking lot when it was hit by a northbound pickup truck that went out of control, started to slide, and struck the trailer. With the roadway blocked, a car approaching the scene attempted to avoid the pickup but side-swiped it and the trailer.
Operator of the big rig was 56 year old Michael Butler of Bethany who wasn't hurt. Two occupants in the pickup: the driver 43 year old Marijean Meservey and her passenger: 34 year old Niki Parr – both of Chillicothe – received what the patrol called serious injuries. And the driver of the car, 23 year old Nickolas Mitchell of Bogard, received what the highway patrol called moderate injuries.
The report indicated Marijean Meservey was flown by medical helicopter to the Truman Medical Center in Kansas City. The other two persons: Niki Parr and Nickolas Mitchell – were taken by ambulance to Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe.
Only the driver of the tractor trailer, Michael Butler, was listed as using a safety device.
