Sports : Chillicothe Lady Hornets Move Into Savannah Invitational Semifinals

The Chillicothe High School basketball teams are showing signs of improvement early in the 2013-2014 basketball season.

Just 24 hours after the Lady Hornets picked up a 58-26 quarterfinal win over Maryville, the Chillicothe boys rallied to past Hogan Prep on Wednesday night by a score of 57-55 in the consolation semifinals. Chillicothe's teams are playing in the Savannah Invitational.

On Wednesday night, for the Hornet boys, senior Trent Moore had 14 points, joined at that scoring mark by Mason Hayward. Chillicothe will play for the consolation title on Friday night at 5:30 at Savannah High School (against Bishop LeBlond). In Monday night's quarterfinal round, Chillicothe was beaten by Platte County, 65-51.

The Lady Hornets, in Tuesday night's win, had 16 points each from Whitney Clampitt and Maggie Graves, while Karson Keithly scored 11. The Lady Hornets will take on St. Joseph Lafayette in the semifinals at 6:30 on Thursday night.

Chillicothe's boys are 2-1 on the season, with the Lady Hornets sitting at 2-0. Chillicothe opened its basketball seasons with a doubleheader sweep over the Penney (Hamilton) Hornets on Tuesday, November 26th.
