Sports : Milan Girls Advance At Novinger Tournament, 36-33 Over Brashear

The Milan Lady Wildcats, in a game heard on Hot Country Z 101.7, upended the upset-minded Brashear Lady Tigers 36-33 on Tuesday afternoon. The game was a quarterfinal contest from the Novinger Basketball Tournament.

Emily Sylvester led Milan with 15 points. Brashear's offense was paced by Meredith Thomas with 11. The win, in the season-opener, moves the Lady 'Cats to 1-0 on the season. Milan, in the semifinal round, will take on Altanta at 7 o'clock on Thursday night.

The Milan boys, despite a game-high 11 points from Raul Palacios, came up on the short end of a 62-43 final score against the #2 seeded LaPlata Bulldogs. Matt Safely led LaPlata with 18 points. The Wildcats, now 0-1 to start the season, will battle Green City in a consolation semifinal on Thursday night at 8:30. Green City's boys stumbled against Novinger on Tuesday night, falling by a score of 54-46.

On Wednesday night, the Bevier boys stunned top-seeded Scotland County, winning 73-53 to move into Saturday night's championship game. The Scotland County girls passed a semifinal test from Green City, winning 41-30.

In consolation semifinal action on Wednesday, the Bevier girls downed LaPlata, 33-26, while the Atlanta boys slipped by Brashear 51-48.
