Sports : Linn County Mustangs Win Quarterfinal Games In Mendon

The Linn County girls improved to 2-0, with the boys evening their record at 1-1, by virtue of victories on Monday night in the Northwestern Invitational Basketball Tournament in Mendon, Missouri.

The Lady Mustangs, seeded #4, took care of #5 seed Northwestern 45-35 to advance into the semifinal round, with the #5 seeded Linn County boys pulling off a mild upset, beating the #4 seed from Hale/Bosworth, 49-48. The wins likely mean semifinal games against the tournament's top seeds later this week for Linn County High School.

The Hale/Bosworth girls, seeded #3, moved into the semifinals with a 68-51 win against #6 seed Brunswick, while the #2 seeded Bucklin/Macon County boys were able to grind out a 51-41 win over #7 seed Brunswick.

Action continues Tuesday from the Northwestern Tournament. Here is the schedule of games!

(1) Meadville vs. (8) Keytesville (5:45-boys)
(1) Bucklin/Macon Co. vs. (8) Higbee (7:00-girls)
(3) Northwestern vs. (6) Higbee (8:15-boys)

The Putnam County "Border War" tournament in Unionville has four games scheduled for tonight (Tuesday night). They will be:

Schuyler Co. vs. Clark Co. (4:30-girls)
Schuyler Co. vs. Clark Co. (5:45-boys)
Putnam Co. vs. Davis Co. (IA) (7:00-girls)
Putnam Co. vs. Davis Co. (IA) (8:15-boys)
