KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Convention & Visitors Association has received its bid package from the Republican National Committee, asking the area to provide specific details of its offer to be host of the 2016 Republican National Convention.

The package — formally known as a request for proposal — was delivered Wednesday morning.

Local officials, who had just received that request for proposal, had yet to sort out critical specifics on what the Republican National Committee will want from its host city: how many hotel rooms, transit requirements or other specifics. Those details, and others, are contained in the request for proposal.

Each city submitting a bid will also be expected to raise substantial sums — perhaps as high as $50 million or more — to defray costs of the summertime presidential nominating convention.

The local committee that plans to submit Kansas City’s bid has not had a chance to thoroughly review the package, said Julie Sally, a spokeswoman for the group.

She said the convention association would probably have further comment Monday, as well as what she called a “pretty significant announcement” about the convention effort.

Several other cities have expressed at least some interest in the 2016 convention. They include Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Cleveland and Detroit.

The deadline for submitting the area’s response wasn’t available Wednesday. The GOP plans to pick its convention city sometime next year.
