While the Tigers will not have a chance to avenge their loss to the Bulldogs, Marceline did get an opportunity for payback against their conference rivals in post-season play.

In the district semifinals, Marceline beat Salisbury, setting up a district championship game at Milan against the unbeaten Wildcats. A 26-0 win in that contest sent Marceline into a home-field battle, on Saturday afternoon, with the #2 ranked, unbeaten, Lewis and Clark champion Westran Hornets.

Marceline was able to take a 7-6 lead into the half at Chester Ray Stadium, with a 25 yard touchdown pass, followed by the extra point, accounting for the Tigers points. A Westran field goal, early in the fourth quarter, gave the visiting Hornets a 9-7 lead, setting up the Tigers for a drive that sent them into the state semifinals. A touchdown catch by Blake Belzer with 1:27 remaining in the fourth quarter gave Marceline the lead. The conversion failed, but the Tigers defense held Westran out of the end zone on the final play of the game, improving the Tigers record to 10-3, and ending Westran's season with a record of 12-1.

The Tigers will HOST the Hamilton Hornets on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 from Chester Ray Stadium. The winner advances to the Class 1 state championship game in St. Louis on Saturday, November 30th at 2:15.

The other Class 1 state quarterfinal scores from Saturday were: Valle Catholic 35, Marionville 0 AND Osceola 43, Crest Ridge 7. Valle Catholic will host Osceola in Ste. Genevieve on Saturday afternoon at 1:30.

In Class 2, the Lawson Cardinals beat the Higginsville Huskers by a final score of 27-14, sending Coach Todd Dunn and the Cardinals into the state semifinals. The Huskers led the game 7-6 after the end of the first quarter, but the momentum tipped to Lawson in the second quarter, with the Cardinals rolling up two touchdowns to take a 20-7 lead at the break. Both teams scored touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Lawson's Garrett Titus was the story of the game, ripping the Huskers defense through the air with a 22 for 28 day throwing, for 282 yards and two touchdowns. Titus scored one touchdown on the ground, with Lawson's first score of the day coming on a first-quarter five yard run by Preston Smidt.

Lawson will play perennial state power Blair Oaks on Saturday afternoon at 1:30, with the game to be played on the Falcons home field just outside Jefferson City. Blair Oaks beat Palmyra on Saturday by a final score of 28-20.

The other Class 2 state quarterfinal results were: Lutheran North 56, Caruthersville 41 AND Lamar 35, Mountain View Liberty 0. Lutheran North will play Lamar on Saturday in St. Louis.

The Maryville Spoofhounds, looking for back-to-back state championships in Class 3, rolled through Oak Grove on Saturday afternoon, 42-20. The California Pintos survived a strong showing by McCluer South- Berkeley, winning 26-24. The Spoofhounds and Pintos will play Saturday at 1:30 at California High School.
